Questions and Answers
What Will My Finished Basement Cost? It depends on the quantity and choices of materials; plus the intensity of the labor efforts that will be expended for your needs and desires. Just take the entire renovation and break it down into smaller tasks, place a dollar value to each task and then add them up!
Insulation Needed? Not only is insulation needed for heat retention, but sound deadening as well. Insulate ceilings and walls. Be green!
Basement Dry? Some basements actually collect water and humidity, while others are dry. A sump pump system is needed for those basements that collect water. And, at least a permanent dehumidifier system is needed to maintain a dryer living space.
Heating Necessary? Yes! But A/C isn't. Hot air rises, while cooler air settles. So your basement will naturally be cooler, which is good for summer but bad for winter. So, with a permanent dehumidifier system in place, along with proper heating, your new living space should be comfortable year round!
Need Sub Floor? Not really, but it's highly recommended. The first thing to consider is sealing the entire foundation and floor first. This will prevent moisture and humidity levels from breaching into your basement through the foundation and floors. Installing a floating sub floor, that we always use, will protect you from direct cold, seaping through your carpets, tiles, or other flooring materials of your choosing.
