When Richard Branson of Virgin drives a tank down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, he
is creating a publicity stunt; it generates buzz and plenty of free media attention. Branson may be the
king of publicity stunts, but anybody can do them, to a degree, as a way to promote a business. Publicity
stunts can generate local, national, and even international media attention. But How do you create a
good publicity stunt to promote your business? Learn from the following experts:
•Mark Tressler - successful entrepreneur once told me, "In
order to be successful you have to do two things: You have to be aggressive and you have to be
willing to do bold things for your company." Take advantage of gray areas and don’t be afraid
to polarize people. Most importantly, get going! Business is all about speed and publicity is
free so there’s nothing holding you back.

•Linda Lee Grau - Here is an attention-getting publicity stunt at an outdoor
parking lot at a mall that leaves people agog! Borrow a friend’s large motor boat and truck to transport
it (like I did) or rent the same. Festoon the boat with balloons and signs with your message. Cut-outs
of beautiful bathing beauties and/or hunks would be added attractions. Drive the boat around the parking
lot. Shoppers entering and leaving the mall will be astounded. There’s something about a boat in a
parking lot that just amazes people.
